Sikh Literature, Culture and Society

About the Series

This series deals with Sikh literary sources, cultural performances (music, arts, and language) and sociological aspects of Sikh and Punjabi society in India and abroad. It draws attention to the intersections between Sikh sacred texts and actual practices of the Sikh community. The main themes and objectives of the series are to critically analyse primary and secondary Sikh literature, provide a linguistic analysis of Sikh scripture and its linguistic variety, and present gender-inclusive translations of primary texts. The series also offers an aesthetic appreciation of aural and visual arts including cultural and public performances of Sikh music (kirtan), and traditional and modern art along with museum exhibitions. Finally, it applies a sociological and anthropological framework to examine various aspects of Sikh society, paying special attention to caste, gender, and sexuality issues.
