Translating Animal Science Research

About the Series

Translational research is a multi-faceted approach to converting laboratory, clinic, and community results into solutions to problems and addressing societal concerns. It has tremendous potential in sustainability of the people.

Domestic animal models have been used to adapt discoveries in basic biosciences to plans for human welfare, including medicine, thanks to comparative research. Cell culture, molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, immunology, transgenesis, stem cell research, and tissue engineering are all developing technologies that have been combined with system biology and artificial intelligence to make them more effective. They are on a path to solve many of the challenges that humanity is facing, either individually or collectively.

The science of bioprospecting is a tool in unraveling the mysteries about biodiversity and the impacts of the environment, as well as changes in the climate, which are responsible for a variety of ecosystem problems. Since biodiversity is under threat, measures are being taken to conserve it by using conventional and molecular biology techniques.

Genomic approaches, such as sequencing, have aided in the determination of species phylogeny and evolution, as well as the knowledge of the genesis and evolution of diverse phenomena such as intra and inter specific interactions interactions (from mutualism to parasitism). The usage of gene banks may aid in the conservation of endangered species and the reintroduction of extinct ones. Stem cell and tissue engineering approaches have changed the field of regenerative medicine. Molecular geneticists are deciphering the intricacies of mammalian DNA, and biotechnology is rapidly evolving. Furthermore, immunology and animal behaviour studies provide new insights on strategies to improve animal welfare. The surge in animal protein consumption, along with the challenges of preserving our natural resources, has provided animal scientists with a plethora of chances to participate in integrative systems-based research to address the challenges we face.

The present book TRANSLATING ANIMAL SCIENCE RESEARCH is an attempt to update knowledge about the newer technologies such as omics (including genomics sequencing, proteomics, transcriptomics), cell culture, stem cells, transgenesis etc. as well as their applications in understanding systematics and phylogeny of animals at molecular level, resolving conservation issues, applications in environment monitoring and mitigating problems, and the use of animals as a source for food, drugs and other materials for meeting the challenges faced by humanity. The chapters in the book have been divided into four volumes:

  • Biodiversity: Threats and Conservation
  • Environmental Studies and Climate Change
  • Genomics, Proteomics and Biotechnology
  • Biomedical Research,Medicine and Disease

These will provide a platform for people conducting animal science research as well as for those who intend to pursue research for understanding life phenomena and determine how knowledge about animal sciences can be translated to ignite their thought process.

1st Edition

Edited By RC Sobti, Aastha Sobti
April 04, 2023

Biomedical research is the first step towards the creation of new medications and treatments that help to manage different types of health conditions and diseases. The prevention and cure of diseases would be practically impossible without such type of research. Although the drug discovery and ...

Biodiversity Threats and Conservation

Biodiversity: Threats and Conservation

1st Edition

Edited By R C Sobti
December 30, 2022

The term "biodiversity" or "biological diversity" describes the variety of living beings on Earth encompassing microorganisms, plants, animals, and ecosystems, such as coral reefs, forests, and deserts. In fact, it also represents a wealth of biological resources available to us. Today, instead of...

Genomic, Proteomics, and Biotechnology

Genomic, Proteomics, and Biotechnology

1st Edition

Edited By RC Sobti, Manishi Mukesh, Aastha Sobti
December 29, 2022

High-throughput molecular technologies ("omics") can help to decipher the contributions of different physiological systems and identify candidate molecules that are representative of different physiological pathways thereby allowing the discovery of biomarkers. Notably, the omics technologies ...
